How to stay safe.
The following paragraphs are a (not complete) summary on how to avoid unpleasant situations and how to handle them when they do happen. It also includes safety tips you should keep in mind anytime you use the ConnectUs (or any other) app.
Never share personal data with anyone, that includes, among other things, the following:
Phone Numbers
Home addresses
E-Mail addresses
Credit Card details
Passwords and Logins
Intimate Images and texts
Ignore any money offer or demand, remember your safety and health are priceless!
Block and report the offering user.
You are contacted regarding your ConnectUs account/spam/block/verification/etc.:
You are only contacted with an e-mail address ending in: @official-connectus.com
If you are contacted and we have your ConnectUs username, the official account of the ConncetUs support team will also send you a notification in your request centre, if that is not there, it is not us who contacted you.
You see content you can not agree with:
Block the account displaying the questionable content.
Try to look away, if no one is in danger or gets hurt and no laws are violated, you will win every battle you don’t fight.
Remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and just because the opinion is dumb does not mean they are not allowed to believe that they are right.
You encounter discrimination, or you are molested, or any of your rights are violated:
Contact our support here.
Block and report the user.
Save the evidence (e.g. screenshots) and contact legal help.
You are engaging with someone on ConnectUs:
Check if the account is verified or not.
Be honest about your intentions and communicate openly.
Conduct a basic background check (we are not the only social media site).
Better safe than sorry: If you have a weird feeling about them, block them, there are plenty.
You are going to meet someone in real life you haven’t met before:
Meet them in public and familiar places only.
Have a video call with them before meeting them.
Chat with them before meeting and set clear boundaries.
Communicate openly what you are meeting them for/why.
Tell your friends who, where and when you are going to meet.
You have met someone you know from ConnectUs:
If they gave you a weird feeling while meeting, block them, and tell us why here.
If someone was not sincere in any aspect (age, looks, intentions), block and report them here.
You know someone and their ConnectUs profile, and it just does not add up (e.g. wrong age):
Report them by writing us an e-mail here.
Report all their accounts (all reports are anonymous).
